COPPER MATERIALS HAVE A RELATIVELY LOW HARDNESS AND THUS LOW RESISTANCE TO ABRASIVE WEAR. FOR THIS REASON, A HIGH DEGREE OF WEAR CAN OCCUR IN THE LOWER PART OF THE MOLD WHERE THE STRAND SHELL HAS HARDENED.

To counteract and improve the service life of moulds, we have developed advanced mold coatings. Recommendations for the most appropriate coating can only ever be made in relation to specific system and casting parameters. Close consultation between the system operator and KME Special Products & Solutions is necessary to ensure that the right systems are selected.

Our maintenance and repair services for mold tubes and plates include the proper remachining as well as repair of stud-welded molds and possible recoating of the copper, plus a complete overhaul of the entire mold assembly, if needed. These services for maintenance, assembling, recoating etc. are for customer requirements on a worldwide basis to be handled in the network of our mold service centers.
